in my yep tonight it reads that the cost of the paper has gone up in price again to 55p. what happened to the days when we were told of the increase befor and not after ? is this to pay for the two football sections, which not everyone wants? i think it's a liberty and then they thank there customers for being loyal, it stinks.

That's it for me. Two rises in less than a year, 22 per cent rise in a period of 3 per cent inflation.I shall miss Oliver Cross. I certainly won't miss the regular Letter to the Editor contributors, most of who have joined the majority of our elected representatives in believing that Politics consists solely of abusing anyone whose views don't completely coincide with their's in the belief that this is in some way constructive. Rod Mcphee is entitled to his vision for the future of Leeds, but I can't imagine many of those on this forum would feel the same and my neck aches from shaking my head in disbelief. Now what can I squander my re-won weekly £3.30 on? I think I'll try riotous living. I'll keep you informed how I get on.

The YEP website for the online version has also been crashing all day. They have introduced an "improved" message posting service apparently !!!

I dont read the YEP - or any other paper for that matter but what exactly do they blame this rise on ?I am pretty certain they have not increased the wages at the YEP, well if they have a friend of mine who works on a magazine based at the YEP hasn't noticed it.The cost of fuel has dropped recently, both electicity and fuel for delivery etc and as far as i'm aware there has been no major increase in the cost of paper, ink or other consumables. So does the YEP justify this increase in any way ?

Nicely put, Jim. I'm getting fed up of politicians (of every hue) constantly prying into even the smallest details of our private lives.

If you are selling a lesser amount of product then you need to get more profit per item sold. I am in a very small trade and if things are quiet then reducing prices doesn't help me. If the customer doesn't need stuff then they won't buy it. With a consumer product such as a newspaper then if they made it better, perhaps with a small price reduction, the circulation would rise, as would profits.

On page 2 of today's YEP (April 13 2013) it states "The cost of your Evening Post will go up by five pence from Monday due to production costs", thus it will cost 65p an issue unless you take out a subscription (the price of that was not given in the item nor in a related item on page 14). It may be interesting that the item refers to the 'Evening Post', not the 'Yorkshire Evening Post'.

Why pay 13 Shillings for a sub standard newspaper when you can read everything you want online ???
