SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

When I was looking at a picture taken today (April 27 2012) by the webcam at the Leeds Trinity Project my eye was drawn to an obvious green area that seemed to be much higher than the nearby area. I saved that image and have added it to this post. It is the green area a bit up and left of centre. I am having trouble definitely identiying where it is, though I think it may be the area with some trees that is near the Playhouse. What is confusing me is how high the ground seems, unless the trees (or whatever is there) are very tall and extensive and so create an illusion that the ground is much higher there. Sorry if it is obvious where my query is but I would like to know what others think.

Hi Leodian, you can see the buildings at the bottom of Eastgate on that shot.The first trees you see are the ones growing up the terracing next to Quarry House. Then you can see these trees behind http://g.co/maps/wye8uThe distance thing has made them looked grouped together and a bigger area of greenery than what it is in reality. It's a trick of the eye and why the trees appear too high for the land at Quarry house.

I actually enjoy it.Sometimes I've had to find holes no bigger than a foot square in cities I've never been to to explore. I guess you get to hone the skills at plotting places out. It actually took me 2 years once to find out where somewhere was!Found it ha ha! Motorway margins, central reservations and cut-off bits at junctions are a good wildlife haven. There's a big bit by Ikea.Leeds doesn't seem very green in the centre, though river and canal cut through.I was once passing the playhouse/quarry hill early morning and say a rabbit http://g.co/maps/72dw3 which surprised me.Often seen a cock Pheasant on the roof of Parish Church too. I'd like to know what the most central sighting of deer is and what breed, Roes are pretty tiny.

There's absolutely hundreds of rabbits on the green inner city southern approaches to city centre(i.e.where M1/M621 exit from Leeds,bottom Dewsbury Rd,Gt.Wilson St. areas) usually seen chewing early evenings (6 ish....especially when bit moist out).A poacher would have a field day !
