I took this photo today of a stone slab that I spotted in the Mark Lane wall of St John's church. I wonder if anyone knows who PO is/was? It may just be old vandalism but it was the only initials that I saw on all of the many other slabs in that wall. The PO is fairly worn looking so is not recent. What looks like a spot under the O is just a small piece of the sandstone (? a bit of quartz) that sticks out a bit. The O does look a bit oddly sized in comparison to the P.

Now it's opening, I don't think it's vandalism, it looks too good and must have taken some time with a chisel to carve

Post Office? It could be an early telephone cable marker of some sort.Either that or the Teletubbies aren't quite as law-abiding as they seem.

With its somewhat out of ready view location I suspect it has nothing to do with the Post Office, though I may be wrong.Mind you, as Po is the one with a circular aerial on top there may be a Post Office communication connection!
