Does anyone else remember the cafeteria in the M&S in Leeds? I recall that they did a great hotdog and the sandwiches were excellent, if a bit expensive. It was situated at the back of the store, down about six steps if you entered from Trinity Street.

I take it that you mean the original large cafeteria that was opened in the early to mid 1950s - incidentally I thought it was in the basement proper actually. It was a magnificent place - slightly pricey, yes, but not out of the way - and I clearly recall the fabulous hot dogs.If though you mean the smaller LG floor one that has closed fairly recently I thought that was really awful and disorganised. The present one on the second floor is really excellent though and is not all that dear. The present small area in the LG floor - only a very few seats near the sandwich etc takeaway - is top class too. Oddly not too many folks seem to know about it and its a real oasis quietly tucked away from all the City centre hubbub.I defy anybody to find a finer value takeaway (or eat in) sandwich than M & S's Taw Valley cheese and celery in lovely brown bread - well under two pounds and just delightful.

I remember the short flight of stairs from the Trinity Street entrance, I seem to recall there were 6, 7, maybe 8 steps. The cafeteria was always spotless no matter when you went in, clean tables and floors always. Glad someone else remembers the hotdogs, best I've ever tasted - one was never enough, and a great selection of sarnies. If my geography of the store layout fails me I apologise.
