I wonder if anyone knows if there is an online map that shows the Leeds post codes areas in detail? I was surprised to recently find that parts of New Briggate are in LS2 and not in LS1 that I thought they would be. Out of interest I then tried to find a map showing the Leeds post codes areas in detail but if there is such a map I could not find one even in the Leeds City Council website.

Try this one - you'll need to zoom in to view the area you want, and some of the boundary lines appear to go through buildings when you zoom closer, but this is the only free online map I could find: http://www.map-logic.co.uk/postcode-map ... lSomewhere in the middle of each postcode area is a little brown icon which you need to click on to show which area you're looking at. Otherwise, navigating the map is the same as for all Google maps (satellite, street map, etc).    

Cheers Tasa. That is better detail than any I found. It does though seem not to be fully right as it shows all of New Briggate as being in LS2, but the Grand Theatre for example has an LS1 postal address.

Is it possible some places have more than one post code?I'm probably being silly suggesting it but I wouldn't be surprised.

I could easily see that say a business just in a not so good post code may try to use the nearby better post code area. Whether or not that they can do so I don't know.

Looked at the on line map and the accuracy is dubious.My OS Street Atlas for West Yorkshire shows an extension of LS1 enclosing the area between New Briggate and Vicar Lane up to the old Chest clinic where Richer sounds now is.So the Grand is in LS1 but the other side of New Briggate is in LS2

There are always though populated lists of places and their corresponding post codes though I am not sure if there is one that directly shows them on the map. What I do is just cross reference the area or even check it on Wikipedia. They sure provide accurate answers for anything and everything post code related.

Interestingly - if anyone has used the PAF (Postcode Address File) system there is an additional code that appears to sub-divide the post code. This is called the "Delivery Point Suffix" - rarely see this in addresses - tends to be coded into barcodes.Ref:http://www.davros.org/postcodes/ukformat.htmlI'm sure I saw a big map in Leeds library once that showed the boundaries of Leeds post codes.

A link earlier that was kindly provided by Tasa seems now to be dead. I have however just come across a Leeds Post Codes map and this is its link (the map can be moved around and use the zoom facility for better readability):- http://tinyurl.com/bte4hh3It surprised me just how large some LS post code areas are and how far some stretch, such as for example LS21 going beyond Blubberhouses. Strangely there seems to be a tiny area of LS1 around Wellington Road bridge that is separated from the rest of LS1 and is surrounded by LS12 and a bit by LS3. How odd!    

Way back when I started work (late 80's), there used to be a series of postcode directories, similar to telephone directories, available free of charge from the Royal Mail that covered the whole country.From what I remember they included maps and went into great detail. However, given the march of technology and the modern desire to charge for everything I doubt that they are still available.
