Hi does anyone know about the exact boundary’s of the districts of Leeds? I am trying to find the exact location of where Hunslet ends and Beeston begins.

I saw an old boundary map some years ago and Hunslet did not stop at Dewsbury Road but a little higher up the hill and I imagine thats why the fire station is Hunslet Fire Station. I wish now I had kept a referance to that map.

I think I posted on a similar thread and roughly Dewsbury Road was a boundary and Hunslet Fire Station serves Hunslet but sits on the Beeston side. The local history book the Beeston Trail puts middleton Grove as the boundary too this being the old path to Middleton. Hence you have Hunslet Park side and Beeston park side either side of that road. Boundaries change over the years as well and at one time the eastern Hunslet boundary was actually with Rothwell Township.So have fun working it all out - The Tithe maps no doubt will give a few early 1800's definitive boundaries....

I have found 2 maps (ordinance survey 1899 county boundary’s) that show the Hunslet Beeston boundary as going approximately up Colwyn Road and down Beeston Road towards Leeds that’s a larger area than I thought. I wonder what the people who live in that corner would call the area they live in?

This is a very good question because I know someone who lives in Hunslet, it's specifically in the Hunslet area but also gets postage with Beeston on as well as Hunslet? As they say, the bounday is a very fine line and I doubt there is anything specific as to where Hunslet starts and Beeston begins. IMO, Hunslet is where area surrounding Penny Hill and Beeston is anywhere over the other side of Dewsbury Road.

The picture is from the 1899 boundary map. Hunslet Station (just above the L in Hunslet) is on the right and if you follow along Hunslet Hall road the cross would be St Peters church at the junction with Dewsbury Road so the boundary goes a long way across Dewsbury Road.
