SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Just now (and for a little while) there is a gorgeous sky scene. A crescent Moon has a bright Jupiter to its left in the south and an even brighter Venus to its right in about the SW. They will all gradually move to our right and Venus will soon become too low to be readily seen.I know it is not a Secret Leeds thing but I thought it may be of interest for a General Chat. Edit added shortly after posting. Some cloud has come across and Venus is now hidden from view. Typical!    

I was honoured to once meet Sir Patrick Moore, CBE, FRS, FRAS in a bookshop. Lovely man.Anyway, a few years ago there was much talk of seeing some planet or other and the omens were good.All planned, set off for Almscliffe Crag with Pizzas, flask etc. Complete waste of time, cloudy wet but the food was good and an experience to remember for self and kids.More chance of seeing Uranus, as they say.

I was lucky enough to see the moon and Venus a few years ago, though I only found out afterwards what the bright star that looked to be lighting the moon from below was.I had less luck seeing the solar eclipse though -- making the mistake of leaving Leeds to try to observe from the path of the totality. Needless to say all I saw was dark cloud.    

On a clear night with the aid of resonably good binoculars mine are 8 X 32 you can also see some of the moons orbiting Jupiter.

Just now in a clear sky there is a nice scene of a just gone passed Full Moon in about the SE with Mars showing as a reddish brown object a bit down and left (east) of the Moon at about 7:30 o'clock from the Moon.
