The photo (taken today, Nov 29 2011) shows an MH carved into a paving slab in Victoria Gardens. I wonder if anyone knows who MH is? It may of course just be old vandalism but it seems to have been well done which would suggest it was not carved in a fast surreptitious way. The MH is a little eroded and looks as if it probably is as old as the slab. In view of my note below I wonder if MH was the person who made and/or laid the slabs?I posted a thread on July 25th 2011 about interlocking initials DD on a newly laid pavement at the side of The Headrow in front of the Town Hall and that was said to be the initials left by a mason who works for LCC Highways Department. This is the link to that thread http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... eadID=3294

Maybe it just signifies that there is a manhole underneath the slab.

The initials are though not that obvious (I only spotted them because I was looking around!) so they would not be easy to readily spot if someone needed to find a particular hidden manhole if they did not have a precise location.
