Hi all,Looking at the Brearey (my family) window in Adel Church, I notice that, quite different from the "official" crest which mentions that the crest is surmounted by the bust of a nun, the female figure is apparently just a woman, hair visible and breasts bared.Does anyone know when the window was put in? Does anyone know why there should be a difference from the official crest?

Did your family have anything to do with the Nunnery at Arthington. If so was the "disrespectful" nude replaced by a nun acordingly??Just a thought.....

Yes we have arthington connections but I am on the wrong computer to find details. Apparently, we gave land to various religious orders over the years. In Adel Churchyard, we have a box tomb to "Jhon Breary", so we clearly had big Adel connections for a long time. Some say "Jhon" was a recusant and we have heard that someone leaves flowers on his grave every year - even now. Can you point me towards any info on Arthington please?

I'm short on time, but a bit of reading of Don Coles work shows the Arthingtons aggresively pushing claims to Breary land. The arthingtons built the Nunnery and supported it, so if the Breary's incorporated a nun in their heraldry then it MAY smack of a settlement. You state that you have Arthington connections.Connections in terms of what may I be so bold as to enquire?

I have deperately tried to find the exact connections but have no time to look properly until next week. I am sure we married into an arthington family and will check this when I have the time. Many thanks for your info.
