Not a SL thread as such but it may be OK to ask it in the General Chat section of SL. Has anyone else lost digital channels following the digital retuning today after the end of the analogue service?I no longer have any ITV1, C4 and Five. I don't have ITV2 but do have ITV2+1. I no longer have E4 (the one that I use most) but do have E4+1 which is nuisance meaning I have to watch later than I would have done. I see that all the shopping channels are still there (possibly more by the look of it).

I got a freeview box from Curry's - about £20 - and my picture and reception is much better than it was before the switchover.

[/quoteYou have gone through the re-tune procedure for any all freeview boxes receivers haven't you?Transmisssions were returning from around 6.00am today - but not everything will arrive at once. Relay transmitters (Bramley for example) were not due to come back on line till late today.If all else fails, call the Help Line.

You need to reset the factory settings. You access it from the menu on your freeview box via the remote control. I'm guessing not all makes are the same process, but roughly it should be similar to this.menu, my player, preferences, television, tuning in, then chose automatic.That sequence is for my box, so yours may be different and worded different too.I too agree the whole thing is a complete pain, gone are their promises of 'don't worry, you don't have to do anything when it happens' The price of a freeview box, v.c.r's that no longer can record, and resetting your t.v later I can't see any difference??

It's my mums rant I'm airing for her Apparently hers can no longer record without some special scart, lead, or some other what not add on. I wasn't listening that carefully, mums as they are you know, but I got the idea These things may only be a few pound, but it's all aggro of buying them and re tuning. It still plays videos, but won't record.

Most boxes should respond to a retune alternatively try powering down and use the first time indtal procedure given in the manual.There were some older versions of boxes from some manufacturers which couldn't handle some frequency changes and had to be replaced in the past - you'd be unlucky to be in that position now.An old analogue VCR will no longer work as it did using its internal tuner, the signal must now be derived from a freeview box as Kango implies.This link will help and provides a source of basic info on retuning and links to manufacturers manuals for those who need them:

And, frees up air space for other growing services - better quality and deeper penetrating mobile phone coverage for example.If you have a satelite dishleft over from Sky, Freesat is an alternative and seems fairly trouble free.

I had to retune about four times before i got all my channels back.I had to go to tv set up and re scan.But i can see a problem with people who dont know what to do they will have to call someone out easy money for the tv enginers.I bet its a fourty pounds call out fee.

Thanks all for your help.My set top box is a basic type that I have had for some while now. It does not have a simple factory reset button but I found a method in the user guide. It was complicated and I had visions of nothing working after I tried doing the reset. To my amazement it seemed to work OK and I had all the digital channels that I 'lost' on the channels updating (and possibly some that I did not have before the reset). The retuning in early September was very simple using the update selection button, but perhaps that was because that had hardly any updating. To be sure everything is OK I have switched off my TV and the set box then switched all on again and everything still seems OK. Pheww!
