SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

I've been looking at the proposals being made in the 2013 Review of Parliamentary constituencies boundaries, in particular those for my area of Leeds. Where I am is proposed to be part of a 'Leeds North West and Nidderdale constituency'. It will stretch from Greenhow (but not Pateley Bridge) to parts of Chapel Allerton and Roundhay. Wow that is some area covered! I accept that this is not actually a SL topic as much of it is out of the Leeds Metropolitan boundary, but it will be hard to take in the extremely diverse nature of the proposed constituency.This link should bring up a basic map of the Yorkshire and Humber proposals. http://rr-bce-static.s3.amazonaws.com/w ... pdf?9d7bd4

Thanks for the post Leodian, I had intended to bring this up and forgot all about it.Looks like I'll be "moving" again - up to the last election I lived in relatively marginal Elmet, but at the last vote we were lumped in with Leeds East (Labour since the dawn of time).The proposed new constituency looks to pretty well combine Leeds East with much of the old Elmet area, going from Burmantofts right out as far as Wetherby and Thorp Arch.Interesting.

You are not kidding on the diversity. Unless I am much mistaken Leeds North West is currently Lib Dems held by Greg Mulholland, The constituency has a large student base although having just completed (a month ago) the electoral register form, I believe most of the students should not be registered in Leeds NW as its not their home constituency. I understand the rationale of the changes is to make all constituencys approximately the same size (70k voters?) but can't believe a Leeds constituency needs to stretch almost as far as Pately Bridge to manage that. geryymandering would spring to mind were the electoral boundaries commission were not totally independent

Of whether or not a vote could be cast against both registrations, I can not be sure but, I think it was yes.

Student land will be merged into Leeds North so Headingley, Meanwood, Burley, Hyde Park etc are all in a consituency. Basically city centre to ring road.

The Boundary Commission for England has now produced some revisions to its initial proposals for Parliamentary Constituences in Leeds and its area. That for my area has though been kept and so (unless there are further revisions) my area in north Leeds will still be in the proposed 'Leeds North West and Nidderdale CC' ward that will still stretch as far north as Greenhow and as far south as parts of Roundhay. That's some area by size and diversity!    

Whats the big winge about? And really there's nothing you can do about it.We lost large chunks of Yorkshire the them up North in 1973 and nobody, not nobody made a muff.

Students can register here and at home. They can vote in both at local elections but only in one (their choice )for General elections etc. But there no way to check that they don't vote in both.

Where am I winging buffaloskinner? I'm only stating that the still proposed 'Leeds North West and Nidderdale CC' ward is a very wide reaching North/South extent. As it stands to be I think it will seem odd that when I'm at say Stump Cross Caverns I will still be in my ward.

I noticed last night that our proposed new constituency is Bradford East and Horsforth, which takes in Farsley, Calverley and Horsforth as well as the east side of Bradford. I know why this sort of thing happens and that it's all done by civil servants and is meant to reflect changes shown in the Census but it's easy to understand why it looks, well, dodgy.
