This is a photo of the access/egress to Shear's Yard that I took from Wharf Street on August 19 2011. Shear’s Yard is a very old yard that is currently (as far as I am aware) only directly connected to Wharf Street (a street between The Calls and Kirkgate). I have done a search of the Leodis website but, surprisingly, that did not bring anything up on Shear's Yard. It did come up on a search of the SL website but it is only mentioned in passing in some posts and there seems to be nothing specifically about Shear's Yard. The 1850 1:1056 map in the Old Maps UK website shows Shear's Yard and that it is connected to The Calls and Kirkgate but does not seem to show a connection with Wharf Street. The 1891 1:500 map however seems to show there was by at least then no direct connection with The Calls and Kirkgate but there was with Wharf Street. This seems to be the case with later maps. The 1921 map also shows a smaller Shear's Yard than it appears in earlier maps.Shear’s Yard is actually in the rear and is interesting as it is one of the surviving old parts of the centre of Leeds. The building on the right looks old but the building on the left is clearly newer. The access/egress road is wide enough for most vehicles, so that may be how the buildings in Shear’s Yard are reached. I will put a photo in my next post that shows a view of the wall and the yard name sign on the right. I hope this thread is of interest.

This is the photo taken from the access/egress road that shows the wall of the old building and the Shear's Yard name sign.
