I wonder if anyone knows why the New Blackpool area of Leeds is so named? It is a district between Wortley and Farnley. Apologies if this has been asked before in SL (or elsewhere) but I did try to find out. I did a search of the SL site and got lots of threads brought up, but some posts I saw in the likeliest threads did not bring up the reason for the New Blackpool name. A Google seach under New Blackpool+Leeds brought up 3,760,000 results and searching under Blackpool+Leeds only reduced that to 2,736,000 results!

There are several places like that around Leeds.Little London and Lincoln Green for example. I'm not sure of what connection though.

Cheers Phill. Your mention of Little London reminded me of something I have been meaning to ask on SL for some time. Every time I open the Old Maps UK website for Leeds the first map I get is always centred on Little London (Claypit Lane area to be more exact). That still happens even when I clear the cache so it sems unlikely to be opening the same webpage, though I'm not sure of that. I wonder therefore if Little London is classed as the centre of Leeds, at least for maps?

I wonder if the New Blackpool name is just a reference to the local series' of street names - Backpool ....., Lytham ....., Bangor ...., etc?

Steep wooded hillside, threaded by winding narrow roads, stream, vivid imagination, property agent?
