SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

This is a photo I took on August 11 2011 that shows a very narrow rusting metal door in the stonework of the railway bridge that crosses over Church Lane that runs from York Street to Kirkgate. Though it has a new looking lock the door seems to be almost past any usefulness at stopping people entering whatever is behind it. The narrowness of the door both amused and intrigued me. I have put another photo in my next post that shows the door in relation to a wider field-of-view that even further shows how narrow the door is and possibly the area behind it. I have posted this thread under General Chat rather than Transport as it may or may not be directly related to the railway bridge. I hope it is of interest. Well it caught my attention!

It's just a blocked off gap between the railway viaduct and Mecca Bingo building. I guess they were fed up with it being used as a toilet, by druggies and pros e.t.c.

It's just a narrow gap between the building and railway as can be seen from the aerial image. They'll be quiet a lot of hidden Leeds along that viaduct in the back yards and such.

There may be larger spaces behind each arch between the piers but, carrying out any maintenance to the building would be, interesting....

When I worked for BR in the 80's on the east end viaduct we used spiral staircases down to street level with doors like that.....To go to the Mucky Duck.
