Perhaps it would be best to leave your motto off the CV though Get practising saying 'That's a pound please' And here's a few goods to avoid buying from Pound Land yourself http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost ... ostcount=6

It wouldn't surprise me - Pound shops seem to be the only real growth area in retail at the moment. In Halifax, Poundland has occupied the whole of the former Woolworths store, making it one of the biggest shops in the town centre - and it's always busy.As Phill says though, be careful what you buy!

I think I might regret asking this .. but not being back to the UK for nearly 10 years what CAN you get for a pound? Not much surely?

Some stuff in pounds shops can seem a bargain at only a £, sweets , biscuits, drinks etc etc etc . But then you go to your supermarket and you can get them for less. It just seems like a bargain as it's only a quid. Also you walk round and before you know it your trolley/basket is full and you've spent £20, or more.

Ok, so how do they do for example 3/4 cans of proper branded coke/ diet coke, tango etc for £1? it's all in date and its all made for the UK market, sometimes you see coke that is not made for the UK Market with foreign writing on that's going cheap. Not being antagonistic, jut genuinely curious. We were in B&M last week and although not a £1 shop they had cans of the same coke in a big pack and it worked out at roughly 30p per can,

The pound shops are fine for me - well "Poundland" in particular. I know of nowhere else where you can get boxes of 88 (and occasionally 100) Tetley tea bags for a quid. Also, unlikely though it may seem, their £1 fresh sandwiches are pretty tasty too.

We were in B&M last week and although not a £1 shop they had cans of the same coke in a big pack and it worked out at roughly 30p per can, The big Pound shops (like Poundland and Poundworld) are now such powers on the high street that the manufacturers specifically make stock for them. There is a specific size / weight of Tobelerone bar for these stores to enable it to be sold for a quid for example. As for cans of fizzy pop, well they cost virtually nothing to make (a few pennies per can), so if the order is big enough then they can sell them at whatever price they like.As has been said earlier though you have to have your wits about you - while there are lots of bargains to be had, some items are cheaper elsewhere.
