The online YEP has an amusing short report filed today (June 23 2011) in which it states "Motorists had to take emergency action to avoid hitting a peacock which was strutting its stuff on a road leading out of a Leeds town. The bird, thought to be an Indian Blue Peacock, was seen wandering across the street where Hough Side Road turns into Pudsey Road around 9.30am today". This is the link to the report (which has a photo presumably taken in Pudsey but which seems to have nothing to do with the peacock):-
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 1_3510626I wonder what unexpected things have ever caused traffic problems in Leeds and its towns (the "leading out of a Leeds town" in the report does seem odd phrasing to me). There was no mention of what happened to the bird.

There must be a tropical bird problem in Pudsey, only last week I had to stop there for a pelican crossing. I'll get my coat...

Talking of crossings has got me thinking (not that I do much of that!). I may be wrong but I seem to recall once reading that the first ever traffic lights were in Leeds.
