I don't think my observance is failing on this one. Within the last couple of weeks a new road sign has appeared on Victoria Road just past the turn off for Manor Road (Yorkshire Forward) and before the Grove Inn. Its an electronic (LED?) sign which appears to be a little more complex than the motorway matrix signs as for the last couple of mornings its been displaying a red square in the top left hand corner but covering at an estimate less than a 16th of the screen. Anybody know what this is specifically for? Is it related to the recent appearance of temporary signs during periods of highwinds informing that Nevill Street and Victoria Road are closed to high sided vehicles?

It is probably part of a new system installed (during these times of financial austerity) to guide motorists of traffic problems as the navigate their way in.through town. That appears to be the one Chameleon but they are being a little inaccurate on the wording. bbc website wrote: 11 new screens outside the ring road at "decision points" on the approaches into the city centre. I presume they mean the inner ring road or do they actually mean the loop as Victoria Road is well within the Inner Ring Road too. Victoria Road is aslo a bit late to be making a decision as to how you enter the City Centre too as by the time you reach there the only diverts are Water Lane to Whitehall Road or great Wilson Street to either Leeds bridge (less recommended) or onto Crown Point Bridge. I think congestion ahead is certain to be an almost permanent apt message.

In my own experience, there can be an degree of irony here - I fine that either a warning of holdups is heard once you are in it, or with an early warning, the quickest route can be to carry on - with everyone else blocking up the 'alternative' choice!!

Quite - if traffic is already backed up here then you'll be stuck in it - the alternative routes (certainly at peak times) won't offer much in the way of an alternative.Perhaps they've put it there so it can tell you it is going to be a bit windy around Bridgewater Place (like those temporary signs they currently put up?)

The one on Victoria Road was in use yesterday morning. It was warning of roadworks on the inner ring road at the weekend and possible delays. I'm not sure that traffic on Victoria Road is likely to be heading for the Inner Ring Road or likely to encounter any delays from traffic that is heading for the inner ring road.

The one on York Road is advising of the same works - at least there you can choose an alternative route around the south of the city if necessary - if you spot the sign which is well off to the side of the road and out of the drivers line of vision by some margin.The sign on Victoria Road seems to be too close to the city centre to give any realistic possibility of diverting elsewhere.

There is nothing worse than travelling on the inner ring road at weekends when its down to single line traffic or contraflow, I normally curse and swear muttering if only I'd have known in advance. I thing prior warning is a positive move. So lets hope the system is put to good use as seems to be happening.
