The Oates monument just off Stonegate Road ,near the Revolution Well at Meanwood commemorates an earlier member of his family.

Capt Oates archive and a collection of artefacts are on display in the regimental museum at Chester Castle. If you ever find yourself in that part of the world its worth a visit.
