I have been looking my Irish roots up and came across this wonderful website.Im sure that others will find it great too, there are some lovely photos of Leeds too.Sorry if somebody has already posted about this ,I checked and couldnt find anything.’Untold Stories’ is an exciting new archive project investigating the Irish community in Leeds in the second half of the twentieth century.

I believe a large proportion of the Irish in Leeds originate from Co.Mayo.In Morley where I live large numbers came to dig the tunnel in the middle of the nineteenth century and many stayed.I certainly went to school with lads called Ryan, O'Donnell, Murphy,Doherty and Walsh and there were so many families with similar names it never struck me that they were any different to me, except of course that they were all Catholics and as such didn't attend morning assembly or RE.They were known in Morley as "the Albert Road Irish" and South Queen Street WMC was known at one time as "The Irish League Club"
