I like to look out at the night sky and last night was quite clear when I looked out at about 17:00 and saw a nice crescent Moon and Jupiter.Unfortunately it seems I looked out at the wrong time, as it is reported that a very bright not often seen type of meteor known as a 'bolide' or 'super fireball' was visible for about 5 seconds at about 17:35 over much of the country as the bolide travelled from east to west. It is thought it may be a precursor to the annual Geminids meteor shower whose display of 'shooting stars' will peak during the overnight hours of Monday and Tuesday next week. By all accounts last night's bolide was very impressive for the few seconds it lasted.
