Hi, Just read a new book just out by an ex leeds copper. It's a novel/ autobiography, based on truth about the Leeds Police in the 1960s. Made me laugh - that takes some doing these days- and it has a historical aspect which might interest some on here. It's half serious half funny. Not for the politically correct tho!John Croggy

I'll check to see Uno hoo to see if it does but it's not the one about 'The Hounding of David Oluwale' I read that and it was really interesting. I seem to remember it does mention Ellerker though only briefly. Can anyone remember a safe being stolen from Headingley Cricket Pavillion in the 1960s and a landrover being driven over the test wicket?

I don't recall a Landrover being run over the Test wicket but it was dug up in 1975 by the "Free George Davis" campaigners who also spread oil on the pitch causing the match to be abandoned at a critical stage. It was against Australia if my memory is correct. I think Davis had been accused of a bank robbery somewhere "darn sarf". I hope this is some use to you.

I remember the Land Rover incident, but not the safe going missing. The book looks like a good read. Authentic looking cover showing an LCPT Daimler/MCW tinfront on the No. 1 route. Thanks to Chrism for the link. The George Davis affair: ISTR he was either acquitted or released from jail, but spoiled it all shortly afterwards by committing a serious offence and getting a long stretch. Turns out he was a London "heavy" after all.
