Has anyone tried looking for local news online, apart from maybe a Leeds United match report, at the weekend? It seems that neither the YEP or BBC Leeds have anyone updating at the weekend, and the stringer who runs the otherwise quite good Leeds page at the Guardian takes the weekend off. It seems to be something (else) that the area is lacking, and we can't be short of things happening.

I'm surprised the likes of BBC, ITV, YEP don't introduce a forum for users to post news items with photos etc. - I often find events are reported on Secret Leeds before the "media" get round to reporting them.

http://fwix.com/leeds@Leedslocalwire BBC stopped 'out of hours' updates on local news a couple of years ago when budget savings came along. The YEP, well if yesterdays news arrives next week we all cheer don't webtw Geordie, links containing @ don't work when posted on here for some reason - anyone wanting to follow it needs to copy and paste it all into the address bar.I hope the same info is on their official pages too - something of a failing if not - not everyone wants to get involved with these other sites for one reason or another

http://fwix.com/leeds@Leedslocalwire I find that Fwix only takes news from the YEP and its satellites so it still doesn't get updated at the weekend. There's also
http://twitter.com/Tweet2Yorkshire, which is basically a keyword search aggregator but quite handy, and
http://twitter.com/gdnleeds. Perhaps this is the future for local news now that the Evening Post mostly regurgitates press releases and Calendar and Look North are made in the same building.

3.45pm Saturday 27 November.I have just had a phone call to say that the White Rose Centre is closed and has been evacuated due to a bomb scare, okay not big news. Not on BBC Look North websiteNot on YEP websiteHowever I also have the information that in the last week there have been two further bomb scares, neither of which were made public knowledge (WHY?), but three men have been arrested after been seen on the CCTV, the other two were not caught.Didn’t the Centre want to lose its customers on the run up to Christmas, or are the public no longer deemed important enough. No doubt the idiots that do this kind of thing will have a field day up until Christmas and into the New Year salesSo if you are going out ………….. be careful out there.

For a city the size of Leeds we seem to have a very poor local media these days. I find the BBC Leeds website a particularly poor source of local news - you are lucky to find more than one new story posted on a weekday never mind at weekends.
