SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Hi,Haven't made a post in yonks so time to start posting again!Does anybody know of any fairly high-up places in/around the Leeds area where you can get a good (panoramic) view of the city?I have tried areas in Beeston and Seacroft but was wondering if there are any other places I.E. on top of hills overlooking the city?Many thanks!

Hi simon, good to see some more old voices I think its usually reckoned that Cookridge, around the water tower is the highest point in Leeds.However I think you might get a better view in Rothwell (specifically Mill Pit Lane ) or Gildersome ( end of Highfield Close).These are both cracking views I've noticed in my travels.

The multi storey block behind the Seacroft Centre must bea contender if you can get access.A few years ago driving down South Parkway we could see a big fire with plenty of smoke.I was surprised to find out it was just the other side ofthe viaducton Kirkstall Road near Eddie's Motor cycles.

There used to be a fine view from a number of sites round Middleton . From the area known as The Clearings was particularly fine. Not having been for a good few years, tree growth may have changed things, as is true for a great number of places.    

You could try the playing fields on Scott Hall Road near to the Carribean cricket club, I seem to recall as a child being told that it was one of the highest points in Leeds.Regards. p.sThere is a pretty good panoramic view here :http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=922330

I was always surprised by the vista from the back of the Bramley centre, with views right across the city .... not what was expected!

There is a good view of Leeds as a whole from Rothwell Country Park.

From the football fields at Fulneck School you can see on a good day across to Middleton. Skelton Grange, and Drax Power Stations to the east. I think you can also see Seacroft to the north but the town centre is blocked from view by the hill at the top of Armley Road as it drops down to the city centre.
