On Friday I went to see John Shuttleworth at Morley Town Hall, and afterwards I bumped into Ken Silver, who was the principle organiser of South Leeds Music Centre, based at Hugh Gaistkell Middle School in Beeston. My daughter and her two cousins used to play with their string orchestra, they also recorded a cassette. They played all over Leeds, Canal Gardens, Granary Wharf, Merrion Centre and various schools. The centre also had a junior orchestra, and a wind band. They also had a close association with a recorder orchestra from Hanover and several exchange visits took place. There were other centres around Leeds and I recall a grand concert at Leeds Town Hall in the eighties with all the centres taking part, that was introduced by one of the Grumbleweeds, who I believe was connected with the centre at Horsforth. Was (or is) anyone else involved with these organisations?
