Enduring tonights YEP I noted that there were events across the city centre at the weekend in support of "Armed Forces Day", including march pasts and a fly over from a Dakota.Additionally there was Dragon Boat racing in aid of charity down at Clarence Dock. Both events looked very interesting and I'd probably have supported, or at the very least gone along to see what was happening, to both - had I known about them in advance. Why are events so poorly publicised in this fair city of ours?

Too true. Perhaps I should have been aware but the first I knew of the Armed Forces Day on Sunday the 27th was when I went by the Art Gallery area. I did not know about the fly over. As for the Dragon Boat races on the 26th I was only aware of those from the YEP today.

Another top secret event today (or is it just me?).We took the hound for a walk at Roundhay Park and arrived to find what appeared to be a triathlon under way - swimmers in Waterloo Lake and then cycling off through the park and up Wetherby Road.Pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8964340@N0 ... 983430474/(sorry, I still haven't sorted a name so you'll need to cut and paste)The swimmers in the lake were going at a fair lick - presumably having heard of the monster pike that lurks in the depths..?

I thought swimming was banned in the lake due to dangerous currents (from where I don't know) - in light of the drownings over the past few years
