Slightly off topic (ie not a secret) but still very much about Leeds. It goes without saying that the much publicised cuts will affect life in Leeds as around the rest of the country, but where should the axe fall? There is already talk of the trolley bus and the new Leeds station South Entrance feeling the weight of the axe, which personally seems right enough. That said, the new railway stations in the Kirkstall Valley and at Thorpe Park are also under threat, which would certainly not be a good move (although how one unstaffed station costs £10 million or more is beyond me...).Away from big budget infrastructure stuff, can I suggest that the council and it's offshoots immediately cease producing and distributing full colour glossy magazines to spread their propaganda at our expense?Another, perhaps more contentious area where savings could be made is the Access Bus service. I'm not suggesting stopping it completely, but is it really necessary to wheel folk back and forth to the shops 7 days a week? At the Crossgates Shopping Centre on a weekend the buses are often backed up waiting for folk who could surely have gone during the week? And what about the 'free' City Bus - surely this is a luxury we can't afford at the moment? The older folk have cheap bus travel anyway, and the students at Park Lane would probably benefit from walking back into town for a change.

You missed the biggest potential cut. I haven't seen the fine print on the disbandment of Yorkshire Forward but it might just mean Sheffield gets its way and YF money doesn't go to Leeds Arena and consequentially it isn't fully funded and LCC have to drop it. I do hope commitments arehonoured but as Forgemasters (ironically in Sheffield) discovered .................

Yorkshire Forward !According to the YEPtonight they employ 450 staff.Thats alot of grief for those involved but how did it get that big in the first place and what have they actually achieved.how many private firms can support an army of 450 these days ?

The 'good' news there Chris, is that the site is run by Marketing Leeds rather than sponsored directly by LCC funding. Marketing Leeds is retained to promote the City in its many guises so there is a chance, though, the thought also crossed my mind too......Perhaps we should be developing a stratery to support the cause or at least find out how we can obtain a copy of the data - all this can't be allowed to get lost.

I think we should plan for the latter.some very important schemes in Leeds (that are must haves, not nice to haves) are being scrapped. Not sure how to do this, its beyond me.If we dont have any regular SLers with the relevant knowledge that contribute then at least there may be some observers who know how we can continue a comparativley good quality website on our own.

Steve,i think we need to speak to Munki and Dunki ho we can preserve this.We need everyone on board before we all sign on one day and find that we cannot access this site.

Agree. I know someone who hosts websites as his businss. That's the level of my technical knowledge.
