Hi guys. This one is just out of Leeds, but it might be worth asking to see if anyone has any info about it. There's very little documented about it. The puzzle in question is a little known about short tunnel in Halifax. It's a tunnel within a tunnel, and sort of underneath it at the same time? Confusing yes!It used to serve the once famous Crossley carpets in Dean Clough. I've recently photographed it, and added diagrams, and maps herehttp://
www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/4650544793/I'm wondering if anyone knows when it was built, when they stopped using it, what sort of traction, or winch device did they use. And what's the purpose of the strange arch in the retaining wall? And how does it fit with the tunnel below? All info would be great to add to my stuff.Cheers P

Hi Phill, I have no personal knowledge of this site - except the vague memory of reading somewhere of its existence, but nothing more. Looking at the layout of track, with hardly any pointwork and the positioning of the wagon turntables I would hazard a guess that it was horse worked, but that is based solely on my knowledge of other sites, I have no other evidence to back it up!

Thanks Jim. It's always worth asking on S.L. It's amazing the things you can find out from guys in the know. It certainly is a curious little waggonway layout. I'm amazed how they fitted it all in.Cheers

Sir Ernest Hall if he's still alive, would probably be the best man to speak to Phill. He did train at Fitness First in the mill complex on a Sunday morning about 4 years ago. I think he has a mansion somewhere around the Shelf /Northowram area.
