I discovered the attached this evening and found it very interesting, and sad. At many of the locations shown friends and relatives used to work in the days of 'what job do you want to do when you leave school not can I get a job'.

http://westwindsinyorkshire.co.uk/attac ... eedsII.pdf Great find Loiner thats the Leeds im proud of people had skills we are told we dont need them now.We are told finance is the way forward thats all well and good untill the bottom falls out of the market. All the skills that made Leeds what it is have all gone and with it a lot of the pride for the city has gone with them.I dont speak for every one but thats how i feel haveing lived among a lot of this industry in Hunslet i know a bit about what i am saying.I feel a lot better now i have got that off my chest. lol

http://westwindsinyorkshire.co.uk/attac ... eedsII.pdf Wonderful collection and the first thing to strike me is how many of these places have already featured on Secret Leeds and I'm sure it may be a springboard for more. One small error seen, Barnbow is reported as Benbow!

I remember as a child asking my Grandad if we had ever had a depression in Leeds, this was after seeing a programme about the Jarrow Marchers who passed through the city on their way south. "No, Leeds has its fingers in too many pies", was his reply.

Its a great site. From my own background though, Thomas Smiths of Rodley are missing, as are J I Case who built crawler tractors at Grangefield Road Stanningley from the fifties into the eighties.

BBC morning new's Bill Turnbull was doing a report yesterday morning from Leeds market and speaking to people about the lack of manual jobs in the area now all the industry has gone.He said Leeds was once known as "The city of a thousand trades" Not heard that one myself but can well believe it
