Some interesting pieces on show at Leeds Town Hall tonight, together with a good introduction on its history.

Yes I learnt a few things about the history of the town hall from Fiona's intro. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the interior myself but we were lucky to get the glimpses broadcast i suppose. I vaguely recall a story about the lion statues - something about them originally being intended for another city. I was always fascinated by the lions - probably because my grandfather told me that on the stroke of midnight they woke up and prowled the streets looking for children who should be in bed.

I liked the Arthur Lowe lookalike who brought in a heavy wine glass that turned out to be worth four grand! The expression on his face said it all. IMO one of the best AR moments ever!

Aye, my grandparents used to tell that one as well. apparently the lions originally were part of the great exhibition in Crystal palace, but were moved to Leeds after the whole thing was scrapped. ..
