In the YEP today. Published Date: 26 January 2010 People use the NHS more than 2,000 times on average during their lifetime, figures out today suggest.The average person is in contact with the health service once a fortnight (2,153 times up to the age of 80), while collecting an estimated 1,330 prescriptions.They also make 31 visits to Accident & Emergency and go on 12 ambulance journeys.If this is correct then there must be a hell of a lot of people using Ambulances as Taxis/Buses.Where do they get these figures from?

That is unrealistic to the point of being ludicrous. A&E 31 times, ppeople need to learn what their GP is for and buy a bpx of plasters me thinks - at least improve their knowledge of basic health. Pusushing 60 I'm already 26 visits behind 3 times for fingers gluing back together, once for a fall and more recently no choice (and certainly didn't entertain the offer of an ambicab and even then they didn't manage to hold on to me for a full 24 hours before I declared the place injurious to my health and they let me go!    

I need to start getting my monies worth.Haven't been to A&E since the 90's and had a period of about 3 or 4 years where I didn't need to go to my GP once about the same time!

When you think about it a lot of elderly go twice a day(to hospital) using hospital transport, so that probably counts towards the 12 Ambulance tripsPlus all the down& outs in and out of A & E

I have never spent a day in hospital in my life, had one ambulance trip, and visit a GP once every five years on average. Can I get a refund?

" and go on 12 ambulance journeys."a lot of ambulances in this age are in fact taxis in every respect other than that someone calls them an ambulance. By that i mean that it is an actual taxi but if there's a nurse in it with you s/he'll refer to it as an ambulance.

I'm not making that up. Back in 2002 i got a ride in an 'ambulance' that was in fact a taxi. But the nurse called it an ambulance, so it must have been.
