SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

I've lived down here, Rugeley in Staffordshire, for just about 3 years now. A while ago I noticed a small area of the town has some York stone flags. Now I know that these aren't just available to York folk, but 3 or 4 different people have told me that these flags were donated to Rugeley by Leeds CC. No one seems to know when or why but these peeps, all independent of each other, have said the same thing. I've tried googling but came up with nothing. Anyone on here know anything about this?Ta.

Sorry to divert from topic very briefly Chrism, but is there still any trace on Cannock Chase of the former RAF "squarebashing" Camp - No. 11 School of Recruit Training at Hednesford - its "affectionate" nickname was "Stalag 11." I was there in November and December 1954 and I'm still shivering !!

There is, we were up there recently. All that's left of the camp is some overgrown foundations. But you can see on google earth where the barracks were. There is still the grave of Freda the dog there. Also on another part of the Chase they have reconstructed one of the huts for peeps to look round. Fully eqipped with beds, a wood burning stove, some old uniforms etc etc.I bet you're still freezing at the thought of it.

I'm not on any of those photos, although a good few of my contemporaries are, but I will attempt to post the official picture that I am on - fourth from the left, of six on the back row.

All goes well up to your item 3 when the attachments page appears OK - but then when I click "browse" there is no change except for a loud click in the loudspeakers, and that's the end of it.Any suggestions please ??, as I often wish I could put pictures with messages.

I have E Mailed the picture to you. Funnily enough, in connection with National Service, the picture you have shown is the very first one I had taken "on the buses" after demob from the RAF - its in Castle Lane, Ilkley in December 1957, and seems like a very long time ago.I do have Internet Explorer downloaded, but I am a self confessed doylem with computers and only manage the basics. I am a classic example of one who "couldn't find time" to go on a course when I first bought a computer in 2002 and I'm paying the price now in limited capability - ah well, only 24 hours in the day !!
