Cookridge was a big farming community with some rather old and splendid farmhouses. One walk goes past Cookridge CC, and down to the beck where the Bramhope tunnnel starts and then on past the ruins of a Victorian Bleachworks. On the track down is Moseley Farm, stone built in the 1600's (above is Crag farm certainly built earlier as a wood framed building and stone encased in the 1600's.)On that track is a tiny two roomed cottage that now appears on Leodis (pic 115 cookridge) which explains what it was (I thought it was just a storgage shed when I saw it during walks) and goes on to recount that in 1840 a man (farmworker) his wife and seven kids lived in it!!!I always have a thing about the preservation of history always being about the rich, wether their grand houses, their civic buildings, their statues or their graveyard monuments, but this is a nice little monument to the overcrowded, grinding poverty of the normal folk!!Worth a look in person otherwise check the piccy......
