A little misleading headline perhaps but not far off. The City and Holbeck Division of WYP are planning to move to a new building on Elland Road http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/sect ... 2&iid=8977 replacing Holbeck and probably Millgarth. This means that the division responsible for policing the City Centre will be more than 3 miles from it and further away than Stainbeck and probably Killingbeck and leaving the only police presence in the city centre at the Bridewell which presumably is the City representation mentioned.More herehttp://www.roundhaytoday.co.uk/39/Leeds-Deadli ... 5903693.jp

I would imagine the police are far busier on a Fri-Sat night, EVERY WEEK, in the town centre than at ER ONCE a fortnight, and even then for a handful of games! Still, tar, brush etc eh?....

It is interesting that one of the reasons given for closing Holbeck is the lack of a custody suite so prisoners have to be taken to the Bridewell. Lack of original forethought because Holbeck can’t be so old? Also as Si points out I would think the majority of incidents within the Division leading to a night in the cells will be in or close to the city centre and the nearest custody suite will be errmmmmmmm, oh yes the Bridewell.

Having worked for the west yorks police (not as an officer I hasten to add). As much as ER can cause a massive headache for the police, at times, it really is bugger all compared to town centre on a fri / sat night.

We've had this discussion with another 'much missed' poster haven't we

Funny isn't it that at a time when the police are talking about increasing contact with the public, that there are plans for yet another "super police station" miles from where most people will actually want to interact with the forces of law and order.Still, I'm assuming the Millgarth site must be worth a few quid?
