To utilise that phrase beloved of Engineering works that used to send the Apprentice off to the storeman, here's a site that will hopefully make some of you smile.
http://www.david.zen.co.uk/toolstore/Don't forget the damp paper-bag to keep the sparks cool though! There was also a cracking Mike Harding sketch about this subject too

I remember an apprentice being sent across to our office for a long stand.

I was on a YTS scheme at "Northair", at the Airport and was hit with the Long stand, and Short Stay, which in my minds eye was something that held a part of a light aircraft up.....

When we were posted in the RAF to our underground radar sites we were all eventually subjected to something similar. After being shown the layout of the cabins and the latest equipment new arrivals (including me) would casually be asked to go the electrical stores and bring back some calibration pips. The storemen would say "what colour do you want" and when we looked blank would say "go back and find out." Returning to the cabin we would ask "what colour pips ?" and then the laughter would break out and we realised we'd been "had."

Cira early 90s i was working in a charity shop and wound up a particularly annoying and dim volunteer when he asked what something was (it was a drum stand) by telling him it was a dildo stand.Five minutes later he comes back and tells me there's no such thing as a dildo. I ask him why he thinks that, and he says "because i asked that customer over there and he said so"!Ooops.
