Vague memories from I think the late 60's.Frequenting the'Hussars' and partaking of Youngers No.3,I seem to remember a juke box that also played a film clip of the artist perfroming the song. The Screen was a decent size, similar to 19/21 inch tellies today. The only track I can remember was Mary Hopkin singing Those Were The Days'Looking on the internet that record was releasedAugust 1968.Can anybody shed any light on this??

Must have. The earliest video juke box I can remember was about 1981? Seem to remember seeing the Stranglers' Golden Brown on an early one in London?

I worked for The Music Hire Group in the late 60's/early 70's, mainly on their fruit machines (anyone remember the gold/brass coloured 'MHG' token coins?)I do remember very vaguely some sort of juke box that played movies - I remember seeing it upstairs in the Juke Box refurb dept and all the workers were gathered around it as it was showing a film of a stripper taking it all off and jigging around to the music!I wouldn't think this product was intended for your average pub in those days - probably a speciality for men's clubs etc, although I can think of a few old 60's tap rooms where it would have gone down a treat... The movie itself was an 8mm film and used rear projection internally using mirrors to project the image upwards from the projector which was down near the bottom of the juke box.I think there were a number of movies that you could choose, perhaps 5 or 6 of them and they ran for about 3mins each.I have no idea what sort of electro-mechanical system was used to load the film or if you just chose it to play on top of any of the records or if it was 'linked' to certain suitable music records....I seem to remember that I managed to 'snaffle' one of those old 8mm films - must check out my collection sometime

Reading that I seem to very vaguely remember a similar juke box in the Royal on Armley Town Street. But this would have been the mid 70's though. I think it had about 6/8 different strippers on. The first time I saw a proper video juke box was around '79/'80 and that was in The Royal Park. It was a huge machine and you could choose whether you wanted to see the video or just listen to the tune. Also it was limited to the number of videos it could hold.
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.
