In the Ford Dealers thread, I asked; RichT wrote: There's also (Frank?) Coopers Ford at Oulton.Didn't they previously have a garage at Bramham Crossroads??(whilst it was a cross-roads), quite literally where the A1(northbound) to A64 (eastbound) flyover is now? Does anyone know of any pics of it as a cross-roads??(I have a mid 60's OS map showing it as such) I did a bit of searching & came across a site that's probably known on here, but it's a new one to me.It features some pictures of Bramham, with the 'GNR' running through the centre, & one of the cross-roads as a roundabouthttp://www.bramham.org.uk/tppic10.htmPlus this pic of the cross-roads in 1912, looking north, as the White Hart is on the righthttp://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/gallery/displayi ... 227&pos=18

What absolutely fascinating views, Rich, of a very familiar location. Every time I pass there now I think of the history in those derelict houses/farm just on the east side of the A1 as you head for Tadcaster on the A64.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

They are aren't they!, I've got the (1960) 1" OS map for the area, & it's interesting to show it to some people ('roughly' same coverage as LandRanger 105)They can't navigate on it, as there's (obviously) no M62, some don't even realise that it's not there!!!The Wetherby by-pass is shown as being under construction, but the 'GNR' is shown as passing through the town centre. The 'GNR' differences are;Knottingly (roundabout with A645)Ferrybridge (over Hartleys glorious old bridge)Brotherton (splitting by 'Fox', with the Tadcaster turn-pike)Aberford (through centre, no sign on map of bypass starting)Bramham (through cente)Found this one on 'Twixt Calder & Aire'http://www.twixtaireandcalder.org.uk/Wa ... =FalseThis site might be of interest to you;http://www.biffvernon.freeserve.co.uk/contents.htm

Oh that IS a classic picture - I've driven coaches over there in the 1960s, and this picture shows a West Riding Leyland double decker no doubt heading forBrotherton/Fairburn/Barkston/Saxton/Tadcaster or thereabouts.I will be interested in the GNR site but right now I'm rushing to get ready (last minute as usual) to visit the WW1 cemeteries on The Somme - but thank you for the prompt.

Sometimes if I 'do' that loop on the bike, I'll ride over the old bridge & just imagine what it was like when it was being used - especially during the coaching days.Usually the route is; home, Whitwood, Glasshoughton, FerryBridge, Brotherton, 'Turnpike', South Milford, Sherburn, Newthorpe, Steeton Hall, Lumby, Fairburn, Castleford, home. All rode at a 'fair pace'Sometimes (time dependant) with side-routes via; Sutton, Birkin, West Haddesley, Gateforth, HillamThen Church Fenton & UlleskelfBack to Sherburn for a pot of tea at 'Squires' (New Inn @ Newthorpe)Have a look at these Ferrybridge shots on an acquaintances 'www'http://community.webshots.com/user/eddiewildhorse

I wasn't aware of the Bramham website; thanks for pointing it out. The GNR from Red House to Dishforth would be my specialised subject on Mastermind, so it's always good to see new stuff.
