SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

I've lived in Leeds all my life and thought I was pretty well up on slang. (We used charva many years before chavs were invented!) but I heard a new one this week. Ronka (thats what it sounds like anyway) for gypsy. There was a bit of debate about the spelling with someone saying its Ronco, but a few people present said they'd used it for years--they were from South and East Leeds originally, whereas North and West Leedsers had never heard it.Anyone else heard Ronka, and if so, where does it come from?

Yes its definitely been used on the Gipton for as long as i can remember but its not an actual romany word so god knows where it came from?? ps/and as far as i know its spelt ronker,,,,,,i think lol

Never known any gypsies / travellers / Romanies etc, so no clue what it meant!However, when we used to have the Albion, one of the regulars used to call people Jenks??? Never knew what it meant as he never explained, even when asked. I took it to be derogatory as he used it in such events. "Oi, ya fu****g Jenk, what ya doin?" etc
