I can find the Leeds Mercury, what others are there, "Leeds" search only brings that one up and "Yorkshire" nothing.

Initial excitement leads to disappointment ...I tried a few searches and come up with some interesting hits, but to read the entire article, you have to buy a 24hour or 7day 'pass'. Otherwise, you're restricted to a thumbnail view of your search terms in context.Pay, pay, pay ...

I know. T'internet should bne free. Watch it fall on it's [edited for content]. Who want to pay for a service you may use once in a blue moon? It's why Facebook has taken over from Friends Reunited. Who pays?I paid a small amount for that "ancestry.com" site registration, found some records of great grandparents. Would i surf it if it was free? Yes, would I pay again, no.If a site is likely to have plenty of traffic then surely it can finance itself? i think chargin gis massively counterproductive.

Speaking of old newspapers, for any of you out there who are yet to start a family, or have just started - here's a tip . . .My kids are 16 and 19 now, on the days they were born (23rd may and 10th June ) , I bought a newspaper , and have bought a paper on their birthdays ever since, and snaffled them off in the loft.I have two to put away from their last birthdays, but once I get the old papers out, a whole day seems to go by looking at the old papers.How much houses were, the price of petrol, the sport of the day is facinating . . . Jeff We did the same until they were about 21 - more interest to us than them at present, but that will change in time I hope.

if you look on free content, type in leeds, it brings up london papers from the 1860s, loads of articles with leeds mentioned, including one about a mr musgrave, an eccentric 84 year old man from bramley,who died leaving 50 grand to various leeds organisations. 50 grand!! in 1862!! fortune!!

Jeff I occasionally do the same thing with my modest collection of Leeds United programmes dating back to the late '60s.I've used them as a source of research when people on this site are asking for the name of some long lost Leeds nightclub....

This site used to be ace when it was 'free' last year now it keeps asking me to pay to view documents???lol as if the £30 a month i pay to Richard branson isnt enough!!
