Just heard about this announcement on Radio 5 Live. How was the news of the underground nuclear test in North Yorkshire received in Leeds?Did the West Riding go to DEFCON 5?Is Leeds busy reopening the Large Public Air Raid Trenches and testing the air raid sirens. Are you all searching for your Protect and Survive leaflets from the 80's. and taping your windows up with masking tape? Here in the NW we are confident that they may have the bomb in Northallerton but haven't developed the means to deliver it across the Pennines yet. They could probably get it as far as Leeds by towing it down the A1 behind a tractor.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

They've obviously harnessed the power of two yorkshiremen disagreeing with each other. This is an area of physics which is little known. Both are obviously right, and you know they are, but they exist in the same state at the same time. Possibly proving that alternate universes do exist where all yorkshiremen are right in their own place at their own time.

That they charged 30p to tell people about the council's plans for the bomb says a lot In South Yorkshire we got to see 'Threads' and a tour of the emergency support centre under Cusworth Hall in Doncaster. I've also probably got reprints of things that the Sheffield Star and the Huddersfield Examiner put out in the early 80s somewhere too.

Crossgates library used to have a map on display with circles on it showing the blast radius for different types of damage possible from a nuke hit on the nearby Barnbow/Vickers factory. At Smeaton, we got subjected to threads as well.
Evil and ambition scatter in the the darkness, leaving behind dubious rumors to fly in public. To the next world, I commit thee.
