Very remiss of me but I have been prompted by a call fromUNO Hoo,and have to tell everyone that Sharon andBrian have had to abandon all thoughts of continuingtenancy of the Rose and Crown despite all the kind commentsand signatures received. They thank everyone who signed to keep the pub open, butdespite all the efforts of their own solicitor, they were forcedto vacate the premises finally. They had a super party on the finalsession and all the ale and spirits etc were suitably distributedamongst the die-hard clientele present!Since then, the upper part of the pub has ben gutted and willbecome Five flats for rent!) and the lower floor is to becomea retail electrical outlet!Luckily,Sharon still has full time emloyment and they have movedback into the old home until they find another tenancy. Thanks again for your interest and supportArry

Awwww what a shame. The R&C was one of my haunts as a youth, we lived on Mistress Lane, also The Nelson. We never really bothered with The Golden Lion though. I sent a letter with my signature as I couldn't get there me sen. Ah well another one bites the dust, as the song says.

I wonder whats going to become of the superb mosaic entrancefloor - the Melbourne windows at the back and what remains of thelarge painted Melbourne sign at the back?? http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... tMessage=0 -( towards bottom of page) Very sad - the loss of yet another classic, historic Leeds boozer,I can remember some nights having a mini pub crawl here - start in the Nelson, a quick one or two in the Golden and then end up in the Rosie - now they're all shut. That's progress.

There's no escape from the eye in the sky,is there? lol I believe that incident was when a Yobbo dashed inafter snatching lady's purse outside. A couple of regular stalwartsgrabbed the guy and held him till the Law arrived.Dunno what has happened to the mosaic floor tho'.I think Sharon and Brian had other things to worry about with upping sticks at the time. Shame tho' that floor should havebeen preserved. Probably lying shattered in a skip!Anyway, everyone, thanks again for the interest shown.
