A fully loaded Russian IL-76 Cargo plane taking off.Make sure and follow the take off to the end and check the available runway left when it finally leaves the ground. Interesting conversation from the control tower.A fully loaded IL-76 cargo plane...payload 1 million pounds!Listen to the 'controllers' in the tower who are Australian. 'The Vodka Burner' as the Aussies call it, literally uses every inch of runway...WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO.. (shot from the tower)You can hear the conversation of the air traffic controllers. The old red's don't much care for safety and rules. Old tale from years ago about the aeroflot plane coming in to land somewhere and due to an argument over landing fees it was denied permission to land the pilot came straight on in landed parked the aircraft and buggered of never to be seen again.

Quite a few years back I watched and listened to ATC as an Antonov -124 ( then the world's largest cargo plane ) took off from Ringway. It was lined up with the runway and the pilot requested 6 minutes to prepare for takeoff. There was a landing aircraft on finals and it all got a bit tense as the russian just sat there and then declared a small problem which needed extra time. He started to roll after 6 min 15 sec and made a nimble takeoff using only half the runway length. The landing aircraft chose not to go around and touched down 1 minute after the Antonov started to roll. I always wondered why the Antonov needed 6 minutes after he was lined up for takeoff.

Must have been a 100 of them and each one carried a marble statue as HAND LUGGAGE. This wasn't weighed at check-in in those days.Goodness knows how that was taken into consideration when the flight engineer calculated his fuel requirement. We took off with a similar heart stopping moment with the cabin crew looking at each other and blessing themselves. We made an unscheduled stop at Kuwait to re-fuel so we must have burnt excess to get off the ground. A flight I've related a few times. Glad when we arrived at Heathrow.
