New Full Measure readers among us may have seen the mockup of a Leeds Brewery's Special Bitter pump tag in the last issue. I've been in the Brewery Taps tonight and blow me if they haven't actually made it. It's labelled as a session bitter at 3.5% and on a quick sample while waiting for the bus, is a good shot at the Huntsman's finest. It's on their website as the seasonal beer for March but I don't know where else you'll find it.

Not sure if this shouldn't be on one of the Tetley's threads or the Courtiers but as its about the Brewery Tap and Leeds Brewery..........Hidden away on the news section on the top of there web page is news that they will do Beer Tasting Sessions for Groups of 8 - 30http://www.brewerytapleeds.co.uk/ Brewery Tap Web site wrote: WE LOVE BEER! Book in for an interesting eventide with one of our young 'entrepeneurs of the year' talking you through all the LB ales and passing on their knowledge so you can enjoy their beer as much as they do! Of course there's tasting and a fabulous spread involved- using only the best local ingredients. All prepared by our talented Chefs. You will also receive a free Leeds Brewery beer to enjoy with your meal. For £12 per head, 8-30 of you can come along and try all our Leeds Brewery ales, along with our fabulous Leodis lager which is brewed on site, (one of only a very few in England) well worth a try. This event is perfect for staff nights out, birthdays or even just for a group of mates wanting to have a fun and interesting night out. So give us a bell, an e-mail or pop along to talk to us about booking in. someone from work organised it for us last night. you get a small sampling glass about half full ofLeeds PaleLeeds BestMidnight BellLeodis (the lager)and then a free pint voucher so you can pick your own pint to drink with the buffet. One or two interesting facts emerged from our host, one of the co-founders.They are of the belief that its as much the yeast that makes the beer distinctive and apparently there is a National archive of brewers and bakers yeasts. They went to the archive with the hope of obtaining the strain used by the Melbourne brewery but although not used by them tetley's still hold the exclusive rights. He wouldn't reveal which yeast they did eventually use but mentioned it was from a brewers that did have brewery's in Tadcaster and Bradford

The best home brew I ever made was with a can of EDME concentrated wort and a sample of Tetleys yeast from someone who'd just been on a brewery tour. As for the Bradford/Tadcaster brewer, could it be Hammonds?
