I had no idea of the association of J. M. W. Turner with Leeds but spotted this soon to be published book:http://www.jeremymillspublishing.co.uk/ ... sib_rdr_dp Quote: Of all the cities of Britain, Leeds was one of the most important to Turner. In 1816 he painted a panoramic view of the city, which was the first industrial cityscape by any nationally recognised artist, literally the prototype image of industry. In this book, published by Jeremy Mills Publishing for Leeds Museums and Galleries, David Hill explores Turner's associations with Leeds, from Kirkstall Abbey to the great estates of Harewood and Farnley; though the scenery of Airedale and Wharfedale, to the developing city of Leeds itself. Turner and Leeds: Image of Industry reproduces all the most important paintings and sketches of the area, charting Turner's developing understanding of the world changing as the agrarian past made room for an industrial future. A quick root around google and I found this superb image of leeds by Turner:See description and original source of the image at http://www.netnicholls.com/neh2000/pape ... /txt11.htm#

I think its more likely that Turner was somewhere near the junction of Tempest Road/Beeston Road/Cemetery Road.So being able to take a similar pic would be hard as the houses obscure the view.Id dare say the nearest panoramic you could take would be from the City View health centre car park,an apt title. The nearby row of large houses on the right are on a curving ,falling gradient. The topography is still the same now, indeed there are some large wealthy houses (though a little later than these) still on the same stretch. The road on which they stand would appear to still go exactly the same direction now.Where i have placed the point for Turner is just about the highest point to view the city in this location.
