Enjoy didn’t work the first time around, 1980, and it hasn’t worked this time either. AB must have knocked this one out during his “Writers Block” period as it’s only a cobble-together of snapshots from a few older ideas [Sunset Across the Bay, Afternoon Off and Objects of Affection]. And as to all the splother about Alison Steadman….. She’s the Anthony Gormley of acting; only famous for one character and, ever after, only produces a slight variation of it!Not up to much for thirty eight and ‘half quid.

I haven't seen the production and wouldn't anyway (the last time I went to a West End production I fell asleep) But Alison Steadman IMO is an excellent actress - obviously as Beverley in Abigail's Party, as Candice Marie in Nuts in May as the accoutant's wife in Bennett's A Private Function, as Mrs Bennett in Pride and Prejudice and as Gavin's mum in Gavin and Stacey.

QED! Not that I have anything against Alison Steadman, but most of the stuff that she’s famous for , not including the “Pig Film”, is by Mike Leigh [her husband] and he’s a bit of a one tick pony too!

I don't think Gavin and Stacey, or Pride and Prejudice were by Mike Leigh - I know that Private Function wasn't by him.
