You might have seen the 'teaser' ads on C4 for Red Riding, which is 3 films based on David Peace's novels 1974,1977,1980,1983. All are set in and around Leeds and Wakefield in those years, and can best be described as very dark! Fantastic books though and the atmosphere is generated by the descriptions of Leeds at the time, with links to the Ripper and hints of corruption involving the police and local government.C4 have piled a lot of cash into the project with big names like Sean Bean and David Morrissey in the cast. They're keeping us guessing when its going to be on, but are advertising the website which features some trailers with the catchphrase- This is the North, where we do what we want...http://redriding.channel4.com/

Did they build a replica of 70's Leeds in poland for the filming?I'm looking forward for the Damned Utd when it's out.

The complete reconstruction of Leeds, Manchester *and* the M62 is quite remarkable The trailer looks very good, with the Eddie character looking as I've imagined him. Nice to see Sean Bean actually playing a Yorkshireman for change too

Someone I work with told me about Sean Bean filming in Seacroft a few months ago - must have been for this. They had a house near the working mens club which they decorated in 70's style decor. And they had some 70's cars placed here and there and were filming him walking past the club.

I think they filmed some of it around the International Pool, seem to remember seeing a lot of 1970s cars and vehicles with film crews about, during middle part of last year.

That would make sense as it gets namechecked in '1974' as Eddie, the journalist, works for the Post, and I'm guessing they would be doing externals of the pool and the YP building, which was built in 1970. Looking at pictures of the area from the time on Leodis the pool is probably in quite an apt condition at the moment.

I work in sunny Halifax and at least part of this was filmed over there last summer. Where I park my car was used for some scenes (I had to park elsewhere as they'd had the streets closed off for filming). Apparently they could only afford to employ Mr Bean for a limited number of days so it was all hands to the pumps to get what they needed on film before he vanished back to Hollywood (or back down the M1)On a related note, ITV1's current Monday night offering 'Unforgiven' was filmed in similar / nearby locations at the same time as a joint project in order to keep costs down.

Yes there was filming, we mentioned this in the thread on the demise of the pool a while back. Nobody was saying what it was for though.
