hi, iv been reading about these travelling boxing fairs where anybody could get in the ring and challenge a professional.did anyone ever see one of these fairs? what were they like? thanks

There were boxing booths at Pudsey Feast during the 1950s, but I was too shy and retiring to go in.

My uncle was a professional boxer (a former Royal Navy champion) and would enter the boxing booth as a punter for a laugh. For the first round, he would act like he didn't know what he was doing (albeit dodging any big punches,) and then go out in the second round, and take out the other boxer with the first punch. It didn't always work!
