You're right Daver" I think the Offy shownwas Woolford's in my day. The continuationsteps up to Bellevue Rd, went pastRosebank ROW end which was,as you said, an unmadeRd,which,in turn led onto Rosebank Road.then to WoodsleyRoad,St John's Rd and Woodhouse Moor. From what I can remember, sliding down those double railings from top to bottom would haveleft one with a rather high voice or severeinjury! There were Stops fitted in strategic places,I recall! I believe a chap called R.Stornoway, didan article in the paper once calling for the hazardto be removed! (I tell lies sometimes!)PS this should have been on Rosebanks Pics! Sorry

The offy was owned by a lady called Winifred when I used it. I was sent to buy jugs of beer for my Grandma who lived across the road and I remember licking the froth from the top as I took it back to her.Never was asked if I was old enough. As for the stops on the railings I always wondered why my friend Tom had such a high squeaky voice. (sorry Tom)

A bit late now for the victims I'm sorry to say, but I just wonder if climbing back UP the railings immediately after the ill conceived descent might have restored the equilibrium so to speak - I suppose not - I'm off now while I'm still in one piece !!On a serious note - the steps are still just visible from Burley Road between massive new buildings - a sort of rebuking reminder that yet another historic area has been obliterated.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Oh are those steps still there!! I lived on Rosebank Road until I was about 4 years old. I remember going up and down them with me Mam and when we got to a certain step, I'd know we were nearly home coz one of the cobbles was a pale colour with a little strip of grey in it. I'll have to find em again and see if I can find me cobble! And no comments about me talking cobblers
