What's wrong Mandy don't you like the political constitution of Leeds Council. At least they were elected unlike you Sort of makes the whole idea of Yorkshire Forward loook a farce really, its Yorkshire Forward,as long as Sheffield an Whitehall say so.perhaps the regional government touted by Prescott a few years ago now looks as if it was the way forward.Well if the council can borrow £60m towards the arena, based against future ticket revenue then another £16m shouldnt be too hard to add to the loan.I think that this was a fall back option all along, after all the council wouldnt have gone so far as they have.Just as long as this goes ahead, thats what im concerned about. The amount of income to the city, year after year after year,is essential.Quite frankly i hope that our arena now completely puts that cattle shed in sheffield out of business, and i hope that LCC object to EVERY bit of handout that this Big Issue seller of a city called Sheffield goes for.Sour Grapes-    Yes,and im not ashamed to say so.No wonder Mr Hamilton wasnt very upbeat when i spoke to him

Stalin would be proud of them.Leeds gets less money spent on it by central government per head of population than any comparable city in the UK and I for one am quite inclined to agree with the general feeling that Leeds' Labour MPs do precious little to justify their existance, whilst the Sheffield mafia secured funding for every pet project they put forward. The winds of change are blowing, let there be no mistake about that.

Well Sheffeld You didn't need an airport or the stupid, "Pop Museum" either. But your NuLab council paid for them and what has happened. Both shut with debts that will never be paid.Funny how their not worried about MEN in Manchester which is a similar distance from Sheffeld. Remember Wakefield is the West Riding county city and thats nearer Leeds than you lot are. Leeds needs a world class arena. For music events, shows and exhibitions. Leeds Piano Competition is huge and think of the acts that used to play Roundhay Park. Leeds is central for most of what is the West Riding, some of the North Riding, East Riding and York. Sheffeld serves the North Midlands!I hope LCC don't bottle it and give into the bit of Yorkshire that describes itself as "South." Angry, yes. Because it is wrong.

I think the people of Leeds are stuffed for public investment. Even if Labour are voted out of Government by next May it is likely that Blair will be EU President and his good pal Mandy will have more influence in the UK then the elected PM. Too unelected hypocrites over an elected PM.You will need to vote out the coalition and vote in a corrupt labour council for any national/eu funding to come your way.BTW did anyone see the commentary on Mandy's speech at the Labour conference where he talked about knowing how the working man felt while wearing a watch costing £24k. Most working men don't earn £24k in a year before tax so couldn't even dream of spending that on a watch

Yorkshire Forward banned from giving money:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sout ... 0517.stmOf course we know where the Council could have found two pots to help, one of £6 million and another of £k154 in Crossgates.

Saw this too in the YEP.At least the council have a plan B where we dont have to depend on anyone else.I think the councils hand was pushed here,im pretty sure they didnt want to let this slip, but local pressure has made this disclosure inevitable. Therefore there is now a very slim chance that we will get anything from the government. They now (officially) know that leeds has a financial fall back plan,so they will let us get on with that, let us finance it ourselves. So be it,weve had to look after ourselves in the past, lets do it again.maybe self governance for Leeds, viz a London Mayor, may be the answer.Selfish,yes.Necessary,maybe.Imperative for the advancement of Leeds in the face of Whitehall, absolutely

There is a simple answer to this: Boycott Sheffield.Don't have a run down the M1 to do your Christmas shopping at Meadowhall and if a band you want to see isn't playing Leeds go see them in Manchester.Stuff the lot of them in Sheffield, they'll not see the colour of my money again after this.
