The main reason I listen to Radio Leeds(and most of the other BBC stations) is I cannot STAND the unending prattle of the ads on commercial radio. No matter howbad the likes of Spanswick,Andrews etc.,even theycannot compete with the absolute drivel of the radio ads.

Quite, much as I'd love to support "local"* stations like Galaxy, Aire and even Real, I just cannot do with 5 minutes of adverts every 15 minutes no matter how good the rest of the shows are.And has anyone else noticed how much of the local radio advertising is voiced by the same few people?* - that is locally based stations owned by international conglomerates..

I used to hate John Boyd, he was patronising to older listeners, he was smarmy to any celebs he interviewed, and he was downright rude to anyone who phoned in with a criticism of him or the the station. or a point of view with which he disagreed. To the point of talking over them. At one time he seemed to be on all the time too. Weekday mornings, 2/3 evening in the week, soccer on Saturdays and RL on Sundays - plus the Saturday evening Look North. I was glad to see the back of him. Having said that his replacements haven't been any great shakes either.

I used to like Martin Kelner but now, and I never thought I'd say this and don't really mean it "Come back Andrew and Georgey all is forgiven." I don't want them to come back. This latest comedy duo (well they think so) are the pits for me. After thirty odd minutes the other morning at breakfast time in a complex, graphic and detailed analysis of the serious hazards of using laxative chewing gum and chocolate I'd had enough. The new girl is one of those irritating folks who can't decide whether to speak "pseudo posh" or ordinary rough with the "g's" missing from the end of every word. Spanswick managed to bring heavy sweating and bodily odours into nearly every morning's breakfast treat too.The self opinionated "traffic bulletin" man David James is so busy trying to audition as a witty club comedian that even a local like me has no chance of deciphering his gasping prattlling in various accents. I can't imagine any mobile motorist from, say, Scotland ot London having the faintest idea what he's raving about. Its time Radio Leeds took a long hard look at itself in the mirror and came down a peg or two - "The BEST news", "The BEST sport in the business" etc etc aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I think the aforementioned Mr James is 'encouraged' to be blokey / matey on the breakfast show. If he turns up on the afternoon drivetime show he's considerably more reined in.
