If you're interested and haven't read it, read the book 'The Lords of the Rings' by Andrew Jennings (it was updated or rewritten as 'The New Lords of the Rings' in the 90s).The politics within LOCOG alone are ridiculous. 20 years ago I worked for a company who ran corporate sports events around the world. We did a world event in London and a lot of the people who have been involved not only in these Games but also in the previous bids over the last 25 years were involved with us. A lot of the organisation is about getting sponsorship and the big money providers do get to call the shots. However for all the arguments that Britain isn't being represented within the event arenas, in terms of food and drink and culture, the thinking in the International Organising Committee is that the Olympics are stateless, and that the city in which they take place is largely irrelevant to the games themselves, and it's up to the organising committee to manage it.Interestingly, I haven't seen this mentioned much anywhere else, the bands playing at the closing concert: Blur, the Specials and New Order, come from the places that have been involved in bids in the last 25 years - London (well, Blur are sort of from London) the Specials (Birmingham well, Coventry - 1992 bid) and New Order (Manchester - 1996 and 2000 bids).     Interesting stuff there simong....you can imagine all the shenanigans going on behind the scenes and the career Olympicants(for want of a better....) trying to get their cut,so to speak. What bugs me is that all the announcements are first done in FRENCH followed by the native tongue afterwards.....??????? Where are the games currently being held ?

You know the French invented It's a knockout' I've mentioned that programme before lol The only thing is they called it ''Jeux Sans Frontières'' which means Games without frontiers in English. Which of course we all know inspired Peter Gabriel to write this little song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKb9XQ39-zcThat's probably one of the songs to have the most misheard lyrics of all time. She's so popular, she's so fopular, she's so funky yeah! are amongst a few of the misheard lyrics people think is being sang, listen carefully and you can hear it is ''Jeux Sans Frontières''Jeux Sans Frontières was thought of in 1965 at the height of the anti Vietnam war era. The message of the programme was simply if countries could fight wearing silly costumes and hitting each other with soft mallets, the world would be a better place than blowing each other to bits! I wonder what Churchill and Hitler would have looked like? Lord Haw Haw as commentator. This is Germany calling! That's my trivia for today done with

French is the primary language of the Olympics because of the founder, Pierre de Coubertan (sp). English and Greek are the secondary languages, although Greek has been dropped in recent years. Also the philosophy of the Olympics states that for the duration of the Games, their location is not the host country but Olympia, essentially an extra-national area where national issues have no meaning. It's quite odd to see very British policemen on duty in the stadiums though.

I guess we can demand the English language to be heard first in stadiums around the world for every sport that originated in England then, like football and cricket??No the English are far too sporting like that, as for the French, well just don't mention English meat or the Maginot Line
